Bruce Kenney and his Vitara

Written by Team Suzuki | Aug 22, 2024 10:20:46 PM

In three years, Bruce has never worried about petrol prices or repairs, and that's all thanks to his Suzuki Vitara. With all the goodies you'll ever need as a driver, it has proved to be a real value for money kind of car. Let's see what he gets up to with his Vitara.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My full name is Bruce Michael Kenney and I am 70 years old.  I have worked for Burroughs Computers in Cape Town and London, Wang Computers in Cape Town and for the Monex group who ran the theme park 'Ratanga Junction'. On migrating to NZ, I mostly worked in the security industry, alarms and CCTV. I am now retired and living in Kaikohe after leaving Auckland. I own a Fyran 540 boat and do a lot of fishing. I have also been to 49 of the American States (not yet Alaska).

Is this your first new car?

It's my third new car, the first being a1980 Opel Kadette wagon and the second a BMW320I. Both were bought on 3 year terminal lease with company car payments. This is the first new car bought with my money.

Why did you choose Suzuki over other brands?

I used to buy second hand Mercedes Benz's with my own money but their quality dropped in the 1990's. My last motorbike was a Suzuki 850G, a wonderfully engineered bike.

What do you love about your Suzuki?

I love the car for its frugality, comfort and acceleration. Its reliability has endeared my faith in Suzuki design, engineering and build quality.

How would you describe your Suzuki to a friend?

A real value for money car...

Why was your Vitara the right fit?

I'm 185 cm tall and 70 years old and it's easy to get in and out of. The steering wheel and seats are easy to set for optimal driving comfort. The performance and economy are outstanding for a car of this class. It has all the goodies a driver needs - satnav, handsfree, infotainment, etc.

How has owning your Vitara made a difference in your life?

In  the 3 years I have had it, I've only had to service it. No repairs needed is good, that's a credit to Suzuki. I don't fret about the petrol prices either.

How do you use the car day to day?

Mostly shopping, trips to Kerikeri and beyond. I drove down to see my daughter in Ohope, and I had no back pain, it was an easy glide except for the road works.
