Susan & Kim Unsworth and their Swift Sports

Suzuki NZ Swift Sport Testimonial: Susan & Kim Unsworth

The Suzuki Swift has always been a Kiwi favourite. We decided to find out what made the Swift Sport so special to Wellington-based couple, Kim & Susan Unsworth. Kim gives us the run-down on their matching 'his and hers' Swift Sports and their experience with Suzuki below.

Describe a little bit about yourself?

I live in Tawa, Wellington and I’m a chef.

Is this your first new car?

We had a 2010 Suzuki Swift which we bought second hand and later sold. We then bought a brand new 2018 Suzuki Swift FR which we had for almost a year. We decided to trade that in and bought a 2020 Suzuki Swift Sport, manual.

My wife liked it so much she decided to buy one herself! So basically, we have two Suzuki Swift Sports between us.

What do you love about your Suzuki?

They’re very economical, very reliable and a for a smaller sized vehicle, actually has quite a lot of room in it.

It’s my wife and I and our dog and there’s plenty of room for the three of us - the dog gets the whole back seat!

Was your Suzuki Swift Sport the right fit?

Yes, definitely.

After having the FR and the Swift before going to the Sport, it really is a completely different car again. It’s one of those models that if you need that extra bit of power, it’s definitely got it.

How has owning your Suzuki Swift Sport made a difference in your life?

The fuel economy once again is like anything else - we’re in that age bracket where we aren’t boy or girl racers!

We don’t drive too fast, so if you drive the car how it should be driven they’re very, very economical.

In saying that, if you need to use it, you’ve always got that extra power. We’ve always had a manual car too.

How do you use your cars on a day-to-day basis?

Monday to Friday we're usually just going to and from work. Come the weekend, we try to get out and about and have a look around, maybe go to dinner on a Saturday night, but generally bits and pieces around town.

Describe the experience you had buying the car?

No problems at all, the dealership that we dealt with were really professional. The only delay we had was because of Suzan’s model being manual and an unusual colour. We had to wait about a month - but we were in a position where we didn’t have to have it urgently and we were very happy to wait.

Suzuki were excellent, and the moment they received the car they let us know and it was as simple as getting the finishing touches together and we had it within three days.

Have you got a nickname or pet name for your Suzuki and why?

Yes! She calls hers Taylor - Taylor Swift.

What will you be doing/where will you be going when you next pick up your car keys?

Straight home from work probably!

What advice you would offer to someone looking to buy a car?

Look at what you really need. Ask yourself 'what do I want in a car?' and 'what do I need in a car?' and go from there.

For us, we don’t have a big family with us any more and we felt we were in an age group where it was time to buy what was practical for us.

In the years gone by we have had bigger vehicles but we don’t need that anymore - this sized vehicle suits us down to the ground.
